Susan52 on Squidoo

I'm a Giant Squid on Squidoo!
April 2007, my love affair with the one-eyed sea creature began. May 2008, I was officially a Giant Squid. If you don't know what I'm talking about, then you haven't met Squidoo. Wow, are you missing out!

Squidoo was founded by author, blogger, and popular speaker Seth Godin as a platform for what he terms "permission marketing." Seth's premise is that everyone is an expert at something and where better to write about one's expertise than on Squidoo. More than a few people have taken him up on that and now over 600,000 pages, called lenses, have been built on Squidoo by thousands of "lensmasters" on topics ranging from, well, just about anything you can think of. Squidoo donates 5% off the top of the revenue generated by ads and affiliate sales from the lenses. Lensmasters, who earn 50% of the revenue, can choose to donate none, a percentage, or all of their share of the cash to a charity of their choice as well.

The cooperative spirit is what drives Squidoo and lensmasters who don't participate in giving back, whether through charitable donations or by sharing their knowledge on SquidU, the user forum, are missing out on a great part of the Squidoo experience. Why, besides that, do people bother creating lenses on Squidoo? They do it partly because it's fun (even addictive) and mostly as a way to promote their own online presence or business or charity (search engines love Squidoo!).

By the way, a Giant Squid is a lensmaster who has produced 50 or more quality lenses on Squidoo. We giants wear our badges on our lenses very proudly, proud of our own accomplishments and proud of what we are a part of.

To find out more about Squidoo, it's best to just dive right in and explore - no scuba gear needed! Feel free to start with my lensmaster page, then take the tour wherever it leads you. If you like what you see, and I think you will, jump on in and join us. There's plenty of fun, profit, and search engine frenzy to go around.
